Gladstone City Commission to meet
GLADSTONE — The regular meeting of the Gladstone City Commission on Monday evening will include the review of a city manager contract, critique of the city’s off-road vehicle (ORV) ordinance, discussion of vacant properties and other items of business.
The city commission routinely meets at 6 p.m. on the second and fourth Monday of each month, except when cancelled or rescheduled for holidays. The meetings, located at City Hall at 1100 Delta Ave., are open to attendance by the public.
After Eric Buckman retired from the position of city manager, Robert Spritzer, formerly the water superintendent, took over as interim manager at the start of the year. With the six-month trial period complete and a “glowing” review of Spreitzer’s work, a one-year contract is now on the table. A $102,000 annual salary is proposed.
Another topic of discussion — use of snowmobiles and ORVs in the city — was suggested by Commissioner Steve O’Driscoll. While he would like to see electric vehicles included, people have found shortfalls with the existing regulation and enforcement. At the last commission meeting, a school principal announced that trail riders have been encroaching on school grounds.
For consideration around how to encourage redevelopment of vacant or underutilized properties, the commission will review housing data and Gladstone’s master plan.
A special event permit for a pickleball tournament — proposed to be held at the courts at the Besse Sports Park on Aug. 8 — also appears on the agenda for Monday’s meeting.
Other points of business will include disbursement of funds for wastewater collection system improvements, regular bill payments and public safety contracts.
Any members of the public — Gladstone residents or otherwise — are welcome to attend the meeting. Visitors are advised that if they wish to speak, they will have a maximum of three minutes at the microphone during the public comment period, which is scheduled for the beginning of the meeting; once business starts, there is no dialogue permitted.
