Delta, Schoolcraft counties see new COVID-19 cases

ESCANABA — Delta County had four new confirmed COVID-19 positives and Schoolcraft County a single new case Thursday, according to state coronavirus data.

The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services’ COVID-19 site Thursday also listed a new death in Menominee County that was one more than Public Health, Delta and Menominee Counties showed on its last tally Tuesday.

The Upper Peninsula as a region added 19 new confirmed COVID-19 positives Thursday, according to the MDHHS.

The MDHHS’ COVID-19 data site Thursday showed four new cases in Delta and Houghton counties; three in Marquette and Chippewa counties; two in Dickinson County; and one each in Schoolcraft, Gogebic and Ontonagon counties.

Using only the state’s figures, the Upper Peninsula as of Thursday has had 16,470 confirmed COVID-19 cases and 386 deaths.

Across the U.P., the MDHHS data site Thursday had Keweenaw County at 115 confirmed cases and 29 probable, and one death and one probable death; Luce County, 132 confirmed cases and 94 probable, one probable death; Schoolcraft County, 230 confirmed cases and 28 probable, four deaths and one probable; Alger County, 278 confirmed, 157 probable and one death, four probable; Mackinac County, 292 confirmed cases and 153 probable, three deaths; Ontonagon County, 359 confirmed, 52 probable and 19 deaths, one probable; Baraga County, 507 confirmed cases, 100 probable and 32 deaths; Chippewa County, 729 confirmed cases and 1,040 probable, and 23 deaths, four probable; Iron County, 866 confirmed cases and 62 probable, 40 confirmed deaths and nine probable; Gogebic County, 936 confirmed cases and 345 probable, 20 confirmed deaths and 28 probable; Menominee County, 1,617 confirmed cases, 263 probable and 36 deaths, two probable; Dickinson County, 2,133 confirmed cases and 240 probable, 55 confirmed deaths and 15 probable; Houghton County, 2,139 confirmed cases, 533 probable, 32 confirmed deaths and eight probable; Delta County, 2,671 confirmed cases and 480 probable, 65 confirmed deaths and 19 probable; and Marquette County, 3,466 confirmed cases, 503 probable and 55 deaths, one probable. State numbers are updated almost daily but can lag behind local reports or have other discrepancies.

The MDHHS on Thursday posted 1,526 confirmed new coronavirus positives in Michigan for a total of 593,279. The state added 37 new deaths Thursday — including 29 that happened earlier but recently were verified through vital records and testing, according to the MDHHS — to reach 15,600.
