Upper Peninsula virus cases up by 56
ESCANABA — As of Thursday, the U.P. had 15,584 confirmed cases of COVID-19 (an increase of 56 cases from the day before), 3,757 probable cases, 358 deaths and 79 probable deaths linked to the disease, according to state officials.
The figure does not include prisoners in the Michigan Department of Corrections.
According to the state’s county-by-county count issued Thursday, Delta County had a total of 2,590 confirmed COVID-19 cases an increase of three cases), 456 probable cases, 62 deaths and 18 probable deaths; Menominee County had 1,566 confirmed cases (an increase of four cases), 253 probable cases, 34 deaths and two probable deaths; Schoolcraft County had 225 confirmed cases (unchanged), 23 probable cases, four deaths and one probable death.
Elsewhere in the peninsula, Alger County had 250 confirmed cases, 147 probable cases, one death and two probable deaths; Baraga County had 484 confirmed cases, 90 probable cases, and 30 deaths; Chippewa County had 676 confirmed cases, 995 probable cases, 19 deaths and two probable deaths; Dickinson County had 2,078 confirmed cases, 222 probable cases, 56 deaths and 14 probable deaths; Gogebic County had 797 confirmed cases, 309 probable cases, 15 deaths and 24 probable deaths; Houghton County had 1,913 confirmed cases, 467 probable cases, 29 deaths and seven probable deaths; Iron County had 836 confirmed cases, 61 probable cases, 35 deaths and six probable deaths; Keweenaw County had 99 confirmed cases, 23 probable cases, one death and one probable death; Luce County had 129 confirmed cases, and 71 probable cases; Mackinac County had 272 confirmed cases, 140 probable cases, and three deaths; Marquette County had 3,365 confirmed cases, 468 probable cases, 53 deaths and one probable death; and Ontonagon County had 304 confirmed cases, 32 probable cases, 16 deaths and one probable death.
The state does not include infections or deaths within the Michigan Department of Corrections system in county-by-county counts, however, as of Thursday, the MDOC had had 22,567 confirmed cases, 667 probable cases, 134 deaths and three probable deaths.
State officials are reporting as of Wednesday, the state as a whole has distributed 1,096,025 COVID vaccine doses. The U.P. (Region 8) has distributed 45,650 COVID vaccine doses; Pfizer 33,150 and Moderna 12,500.
