Slight increase in local COVID-19 cases reported
ESCANABA — As of Wednesday, the U.P. had 15,528 confirmed cases of COVID-19, 3,723 probable cases, 348 deaths and 79 probable deaths linked to the disease, according to state officials.
The figure does not include prisoners in the Michigan Department of Corrections.
According to the state’s county-by-county count issued Wednesday, Delta County had a total of 2,587 confirmed COVID-19 cases (an increase of seven from the previous day), 449 probable cases, 61 deaths and 18 probable deaths; Menominee County had 1,562 confirmed cases (an increase of five cases), 247 probable cases, 34 deaths and two probable deaths; Schoolcraft County had 225 confirmed cases (unchanged from the previous day), 23 probable cases, four deaths and one probable death.
Elsewhere in the peninsula, Alger County had 249 confirmed cases, 146 probable cases, one death and two probable deaths; Baraga County had 482 confirmed cases, 90 probable cases, and 29 deaths; Chippewa County had 673 confirmed cases, 988 probable cases, 16 deaths and two probable deaths; Dickinson County had 2,076 confirmed cases, 219 probable cases, 56 deaths and 14 probable deaths; Gogebic County had 792 confirmed cases, 308 probable cases, 15 deaths and 24 probable deaths; Houghton County had 1,895 confirmed cases, 462 probable cases, 27 deaths and seven probable deaths; Iron County had 836 confirmed cases, 62 probable cases, 32 deaths and six probable deaths; Keweenaw County had 97 confirmed cases, 23 probable cases, one death and one probable death; Luce County had 129 confirmed cases, and 71 probable cases; Mackinac County had 272 confirmed cases, 139 probable cases, and three deaths; Marquette County had 3,356 confirmed cases, 466 probable cases, 53 deaths and one probable death; and Ontonagon County had 297 confirmed cases, 30 probable cases, 16 deaths and one probable death.
The state does not include infections or deaths within the Michigan Department of Corrections system in county-by-county counts, however, as of Tuesday, the MDOC had 22,464 confirmed cases, 660 probable cases, 133 deaths and three probable deaths statewide according to state officials.
