WELLS TOWNSHIP — Escanaba Public Safety officers spent about two hours fighting a fire after a barn in Wells Township was struck by lightning early Wednesday morning.

On Wednesday, Aug. 26 at 4:43 a.m., officers were dispatched to the barn, located at 3296 18th Lane. When they arrived, they saw flames and smoke coming from the roof of the barn.

Officers were able to control the fire and contain it to the second story of the barn. They were on the scene for about two hours. The barn suffered fire and water damage. No injuries were reported.

Escanaba Public Safety was assisted by the Ford River Fire Department, Delta County Central Dispatch, Michigan State Police and Delta County Sheriff’s Office.
