Man killed by log truck

HUMBOLDT TOWNSHIP — The Marquette County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a fatal accident that occurred at M95 and US 41 in Humboldt Township.

Officers believe the accident occurred Thursday around 12:40 a.m. Initial investigation suggests a driver parked his empty logging truck on the northbound shoulder of M95. While the driver was outside the truck, the unoccupied truck rolled and struck the driver. The truck then continued to roll and crashed into the east wall of the Corner Cafe.

Witnesses found the logging truck crashed into the Corner Cafe around 12:40 a.m., and the deceased victim, a 60-year-old man from Ontonagon County, was found shortly afterwards.

The Marquette County Sheriffs Office was assisted at the scene by the Ishpeming Police Department, Michigan State Police, UPHS EMS, Ely Township First Responders, and the Humboldt Township Fire Department.

The investigation is ongoing and in inspection of the logging truck by the Michigan State Police Motor Carrier Division is pending.

M95 was closed to traffic for about 3 1/2 hours during the scene investigation and documentation.
