430 tested for virus in Delta County, cases steady

ESCANABA — Delta County officials have reported 14 confirmed cases of COVID-19 and two deaths related to coronavirus.

Public Health, Delta and Menominee Counties is aware of 430 specimens from Delta County that had been submitted for coronavirus testing. Fourteen of these specimens tested positive for COVID-19 (including two deaths), 384 had tested negative, specimens had been submitted from three probable patients, and test results for the remaining 29 specimens were pending.

Test results for specimens are being processed continually. Because of this, the numbers it listed could change at any time.

The Upper Peninsula had 96 confirmed cases of COVID-19 and 15 deaths caused by the virus, according to michigan.gov.

Schoolcraft County had four confirmed cases and Menominee County had six confirmed cases.

Elsewhere in the peninsula, Baraga County had one confirmed case, Chippewa County had two cases, Dickinson County had five cases and two deaths, Gogebic County had four cases and one death, Houghton County had two cases, Luce County had one case, Mackinac County had six cases and Marquette County had 51 cases and 10 deaths.

Across the state, 48,021 cases of COVID-19 had been confirmed and 4,674 deaths had been reported.

Delta County officials also provided information on the closure of county offices to the public. In keeping with state recommendations, the ongoing closure of the Delta County Courthouse has been extended through the end of business on Tuesday, May 19.

Along with the courthouse, the extended closure includes the Delta County Airport Administration Office, the Delta County Sheriff’s Department, the Veteran’s Service Office and the Friend of the Court Offices. County staff will be available via phone to help members of the public with services or questions. Callers are asked to be patient, as call volume may increase as a result of the closure.

The closure will be reevaluated during the Delta County Board of Commissioners’ next scheduled meeting, also set for May 19. A list of county departments and services, along with a separate notice on court proceedings, can be found on www.deltacountymi.org.
