School millage renewal passes
SENEY TOWNSHIP — A proposed millage renewal for Tahquamenon Area Schools was approved by voters Tuesday. The district includes communities in the counties of Luce, Schoolcraft, Mackinac and Chippewa.
According to election results posted on Luce County’s website, a total of 987 voters in the district, or 67.7 percent, supported the renewal. 471 voters, or 32.3 percent, were against it.
In Seney Township, 17 voters, or 48.57 percent, were in support of the millage. However, 18 voters, or 51.43 percent, opposed its renewal.
The millage renewal calls for Tahquamenon Area Schools to continue levying a statutory rate of not to exceed 18 mills ($18 per each $1,000 of taxable value) on all property for 2020, except principal residence and other property exempted by law, as required for the district to receive its revenue per pupil foundation allowance. In 2020, the district will collect about $3,226,632 through the millage.
