ESCANABA — Mr. Tire was established in 1971 in Escanaba, according to owner Toby Kuivinen. The business has locations in Escanaba, Iron Mountain, Marquette and Baraga.

Although the business has been around for quite a few years, it continues to offer new services to its customers. People in the Escanaba area are now able to take advantage of a service recently introduced by Mr. Tire — an air compressor available for free public use.

According to its official website, all Mr. Tire locations focus on tires, alignments, brakes and mechanical repairs. The business also provides battery starting and charging, preventive maintenance and state inspections.

Mr. Tire offers tires from brands like Bridgestone, Firestone and Fuzion, among others. Its tire and wheel services include computer spin balancing, rotations, wheel alignment, flat repairs, tire pressure monitoring systems expertise and low profile tire installations.

Technicians at Mr. Tire are capable of doing many different auto repairs. These include electric and electronic system repairs, inspection and changing of belts and hoses, repairs of heating and air conditioning systems, brake services and more.

An air compressor was introduced at Mr. Tire’s Escanaba location on Nov. 1.

“This is a heated air compressor open 24/7 for the community to use,” Kuivinen said.

The compressor was installed in response to feedback from community members.

“There’s really no place in town to get air,” Kuivinen said.

Kuivinen noted the compressor will be usable even during the U.P.’s harsh winters.

“This compressor’s good for 50 below,” he said.

Though the air compressor has not been available to the public for long, Kuivinen said it has already been well-received.

“(There’s) lots of positive feedback,” he said.
