ESCANABA — A downtown tradition that brings local businesses outside on Ludington Street for a day filled with deals, displays and fun returns.

Escanaba’s annual Downtown Sidewalk Sales is Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Local businesses along Ludington Street will be setting up shop outside and will provide sales on their products during the event. Ludington Street will be closed to traffic from 8th Street to 14th Street with 10th Street still open.

“It’s basically the businesses from 14th Street to 8th Street that will be participating,” Sue Parker, a board member of the Downtown Partners in Business, said.

The Downtown Partners in Business organized the event with the Downtown Development Authority as the major sponsor.

Restaurants in the area will also be participating with deals for those attending the event to enjoy, Parker said.

Restaurants won’t be setting up outside with the other businesses, but there are patio options for some.

Parker added some local businesses outside of the perimeter of the event will be participating, as well.

The event holds more than just deals for those that attend.

The event will also include a car show, Escanaba Public Safety fire truck display, community organization booths, Armageddon on Wheels and bounce houses.

The city band will also be performing.

Parker said the car show gets bigger and bigger every year.

The registration for the car show is the day of the event from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. The car show will take place from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. with trophies awarded at 3 p.m.

According to Parker, all of this is in addition to the great shopping that will be available.

The Downtown Sidewalk Sales day has been an annual event for years.

“This (event) goes way back to when I was a kid,” Parker said. “It could be well over 50 years in tradition.”
