SUV driver injured in collision with semi

ESCANABA — The driver of an SUV was injured in a crash with a semi near the Delta County Airport Friday, Escanaba Public Safety officers said.

The accident occurred on M-35 near the airport entrance at around 4:48 p.m. The driver was initially trapped in the vehicle and the Jaws of Life was called. However, law enforcement at the scene were able to free the driver before the Jaws of Life arrived.

The driver of the SUV was transported to OSF St. Francis Hospital by Rampart for treatment of her injuries. The driver of the semi was not injured.

The SUV sustained significant damage and airbags were deployed. The semi trailer sustained damage to the driver-side axle.

The accident remains under investigation.

The Delta County Sheriff’s Department, Michigan State Police – Gladstone Post, Department of Natural Resources, Ford River Township Fire Department, Rampart and Genes Towing assisted at the scene.
