On Ninth Avenue South in Escanaba, three youths pivot from scooping shovelfuls of snow and autumn leaves to throwing them at one another.
On Monday -- the first day of the season that snow stuck to the ground in Escanaba -- Robert Lee gently lobs a snowball toward Cedric Guindon, who raises a mittened hand.
