Sunnyside Up kicks off Strings on the Bay performances

ESCANABA — The first concert of the “Strings on the Bay” chamber music series is taking place on Tuesday, June 25 at 7 p.m. in the Besse Theater on the Escanaba Bay College Campus. “Sunnyside Up” is an evening of classical and neo-classical music.

“Sunnyside Up” features a talented lineup of musicians, including violinist and series director, Paul Lundin, flutist Emily Olson, violist Joseph Deller, and cellist Eliot Haas. The program promises a delightful mix of compositions from the classical and neo-classical genres, featuring works by Mozart, Antonin Reicha, and Max Reger. As a special highlight, the ensemble will perform Michael Giacchino’s piece, “Married Life,” from the beloved Disney movie, “Up.”

Paul Lundin, an Escanaba native now residing in the Detroit area, brings a wealth of experience as a freelance violinist performing with several symphony orchestras. This year marks his 13th year directing Strings on the Bay. Emily Olson, a freelance flutist based in Ann Arbor, joins the ensemble for this concert.

Making his debut at Strings on the Bay is cellist Eliot Haas, originally from Shreveport, Louisiana, and currently active in Southeast Michigan’s orchestra scene. Violist Joseph Deller, a familiar face to Escanaba audiences, returns with his newly acquired viola, crafted with reclaimed wood from the bottom of Lake Superior, which he will showcase up close to concertgoers.

A reception with light refreshments will follow the concert, offering audience members an opportunity to visit with the performers.

This concert is the first of three exciting programs scheduled for the summer. The remaining concerts are as follows:
