Work to begin on Manistique bridge

MANISTIQUE — Work on the U.S. 2 bridge over the Manistique River is set to start Tuesday and continue through Oct. 30.

The Michigan Department of Transportation is investing roughly $547,000 in scour countermeasures, riprap, signs and slope restoration on the bridge. The work is intended to increase safety and extend the bridge’s lifespan.

Most of the work will be done underneath the bridge, but drivers may experience some short-term intermittent traffic shifts. The speed limit on the bridge will be lowered to 35 MPH while traffic shifts are in place. All lanes of traffic will be maintained at all times without any width restrictions.
