Film series movie fundraiser rescheduled

ESCANABA — The outdoor movie event and fundraiser for the Bay College Food Pantry originally planned for Thursday, Sept. 19 has been rescheduled for Oct. 17. Doors will open at 7:30 p.m. when the Bay College Film Series presents an outdoor showing at 8 p.m. of the cult classic Moonrise Kingdom at the Northern Sun Winery in Bark River. “Bring your favorite lawn chairs or blankets and any snacks you’d like,” said Film Series Coordinator Nanci Love. “Popcorn and soda are part of the ticket price. All proceeds will go to support the Bay College Food Pantry.”

Northern Sun Winery will be co-hosting the event. The ticket price includes two wine samples (for those 21 and older), and wine can be purchased during the show (ID required). Susie Anthony of Northern Sun is excited about the upcoming event. “Sitting out under the stars, sipping U.P.-grown wine and watching a good movie is the height of civilization,” she said. Northern Sun is located at 983 10th Road in Bark River.

The Bay Food Pantry operates in conjunction with Feeding America, a nonprofit network of food banks across the country. Jill Martin, director of TRIO and the pantry says that students brought the issue to the college’s attention. “Students can’t perform well academically when they’re hungry.” The Pantry is sponsored by Aldi and private donations.

“The film series is proud to co-host this event,” said Love. “We hope to see lots of people turning out to support the Food Pantry.”

Doors will open at the Northern Sun Winery at 8 p.m. The movie will begin at 8:30 p.m.

Tickets can be purchased at the Bay College ticket window, the tasting room at Northern Sun the night of the show, or online at https://www.northernsunwinery.com/shop. In the event of poor weather on Oct. 17, the movie will be shown at 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 30, inside Bay College’s Joseph Heirman University Center in room 952 featuring an indoor/outdoor theme welcoming guests to bring their lawn chairs and blankets. Other seating will also be provided.
