Assault case heads to circuit court

ESCANABA — An Escanaba man recently was bound over to Delta County Circuit Court for allegedly assaulting his girlfriend.

Kent Wesley King, 40, of 226 N. 12th St. Upper, Escanaba, was bound over on one count of assault with intent to do great bodily harm less than murder or by strangulation, a 10-year felony with a maximum fine of $5,000.

The charges stem from an incident that occurred on March 21 in Escanaba.

Escanaba Public Safety Officers had contact with a woman who indicated she had been assaulted by her boyfriend, King.

During the investigation, officers determined King had argued with the woman and assaulted her by throwing her onto a bed and grabbing her by the throat. The woman was able to kick King off, but King grabbed her leg and twisted it. He had also thrown a soda bottle at the woman, striking her in the head.

The woman described significant injuries as a result of the assault and had sought medical treatment.

King’s bond was set at $250,000 cash/surety.
