Tonight, the Delta County Chamber of Commerce will host the final Love Affair fundraiser, now known as Dancing Through the Decades, marking the close of a tradition that has been part of the Chamber’s story for nearly four decades.
Since its beginning in 1986, Love Affair has been far more than a fundraiser. It has been a gathering place where businesses, community leaders, friends and neighbors came together to support one another and strengthen the Chamber’s ability to serve Delta County.
When Love Affair began 39 years ago, it served an urgent and essential purpose. At a time when few fundraisers were being held in the community, the event helped keep the Chamber’s doors open. In its early years, Love Affair generated approximately $15,000 in net income and helped retire debt, providing much-needed stability during a pivotal moment. Its creativity and success reflected exactly what the Chamber and the community needed at that time.
As the Chamber prepared for this year’s event, we spent time scouring our archives and the memories they hold. The very first Love Affair was not simply an event; it was neighbors helping neighbors, with local businesses and individuals stepping forward, saying yes and believing in the value of a strong Chamber. That generosity laid the foundation for nearly four decades of growth, collaboration and service.
Because of that early success, fueled by the countless volunteers, sponsors and supporters who carried the event forward year after year, the Chamber stands on solid ground today. Over time, the Chamber has evolved, its mission has expanded and its revenue model has diversified. Today, non-dues revenue is generated through efforts such as U.P. State Fair management, the Delta Force leadership program, Epson tour presenting sponsorship and other partnerships. These initiatives directly benefit members, our waterfront community and help keep membership dues manageable, while positioning the Chamber for long-term sustainability.

Over the past 39 years, the landscape of community involvement has also changed. Individuals, businesses and community leaders are balancing more demands on their time than ever before, with a growing number of events, initiative and causes all deserving of support. Recognizing these evolving realities, the Chamber Board made the thoughtful decision to bring Love Affair to a close, thus allowing members to focus their time and resources where it is most meaningful, while continuing to support the many worthwhile fundraisers and organizations that strengthen the community.
This year’s Love Affair, Dancing Through the Decades, celebrates a remarkable legacy by honoring those who helped launch the event, those who sustained it through the decades and those who continue to support the Chamber today. While this marks the final Love Affair, it is being celebrated not with sadness, but with gratitude and pride – pride in what the event accomplished, gratitude for the people who made it possible and appreciation for the lasting impact it has had on Delta County.
The Delta County Chamber extends its sincere thanks to its members, sponsors, volunteers and attendees whose generosity made Love Affair possible for nearly four decades and encourages continued support of the many community fundraisers and events that play a vital role in keeping Delta County strong.
The final Love Affair is truly a full-circle moment. Tonight, we’ll celebrate, reminisce and look ahead with appreciation for the past and confidence in the future.
