Functional Neurological Disorder – The illness you didn’t know existed

Functional Neurological Disorder (FND) is a problem with the functioning of the nervous system and how the brain and body send and receive signals. Physical and/or psychological risk factors can cause functional symptoms which include a variety of physical, sensory and cognitive symptoms that have yet to be explained by a recognized disease.

Symptoms

– Paralysis/weakness

– Non epileptic seizures

– Gait and balance problems

– Headaches/migraines

– Chronic pain

– Involuntary movements/tremors

– Tics

– Visual changes

– Speech changes; slurred, stutter, gibberish, loss of speech

– Cognitive changes/brain fog

– Sensory changes

– Sleep disturbance

– Bladder/bowel problems

Functional Neurological Disorder changes and fluctuates every second, minute, hour. It is a disabling illness that a lot of people do not know about. There are even a lot of doctors that have never heard of it. I would like to spread awareness so we can get new research and answers.

Most people with FND are not believed and told it is all in their head. I, personally, suffered for eight months constantly going back and forth from different doctors with no answers to what was happening to my body. There are no medications, there is no cure, there is no treatment. Physical therapy, occupational therapy, and talk therapy are used but have not been proven to work or help everyone with this illness.

What I need from you

I need help spreading awareness about this disorder. Research, talk about it, post about it. We are fighting for treatment but no one is fighting for us. Help us in this fight and spread awareness.
