Wells Lions 52 Club Raffle winner named

WELLS — The winner of the Wells Lions 52 Club Raffle for Jan. 20 is Amy Reinhardt of Escanaba, who won $100. This was week 25 of the raffle.

AAUW to hold ‘Book Night’ event Feb. 20

ESCANABA — The American Association of University Women (AAUW) will hold “Book Night” on Feb. 20 at the home of Carol Bergquist, located at 1221 5th Ave. S. in Escanaba. Members and guests are invited to bring a favorite book to share.

The evening will begin at 5:30 p.m. with a soup supper. Snacks and desserts will be welcomed.

AAUW is open to men and women holding an associate’s degree or higher. Formed in 1881, the organization is globally recognized for its advancement of equity for women and girls through advocacy, education and research. For more information on AAUW, call 474-6545.

Rapid Readers to meet Feb. 13 in Rapid River

RAPID RIVER — The Feb. 13 Rapid Readers discussion of Maxwell King’s “The Good Neighbor” begins at 10 a.m. at Jack’s Restaurant in Rapid River. New members are welcome.

“The Cuckoo’s Calling,” by Robert Galbraith (J.K. Rowling), is the novel for the Thursday, March 12 discussion.

Spaghetti benefit set

ROCK — A spaghetti benefit is planned for the Arndt family of Rock, who lost their home to a house fire on Jan. 2. The event will take place at the Rock Lions Club on Saturday, Jan. 25 from 4 to 7 p.m.

There is a cost for the dinner, but children age three and under eat free.

The event will also include a silent action, bucket raffles, and 50/50 drawings. Silent auction bidding is now open at the Rock Senior Center during regular hours, but final bids will be taken at the benefit.

Donations for the Arndt family are also being accepted at the Rock Credit Union and the Mid Peninsula School.

Elks Auxiliary meeting

ESCANABA — The Elks Auxiliary will hold their February meeting on Thursday, Feb. 6. Social hour is at 5:30 p.m. with dinner at 6:30 p.m. and the meeting to follow. Contact Peggy at 786-4278 or text her at 280-1585 with reservations or cancellations by Monday, Feb. 3, at noon.

DAR to meet Feb. 8

MARQUETTE — The Onagomingkway Chapter, DAR, will hold its monthly meeting on Saturday, Feb. 8 from noon until three p.m. at the Marquette Big Boy Restaurant, 1950 US-41 W, Marquette. Members should plan on ordering a meal.

‘Blue Mass’ service Sunday in Escanaba

ESCANABA — A special “Blue Mass” will be held in honor of first responders and those who have fallen in the line of duty at St. Joseph & St. Patrick Parish in Escanaba on Jan. 26.

The service is for people of all faiths. All police officers, correctional officers, firefighters, military, dispatchers, EMT personnel or anyone who serves the public is welcome to attend, in uniform or not.

Medals will be distributed, and Fr. Tim Ferguson will be happy to bless any and all vehicles after Mass. Public safety officers will receive free breakfast after mass at a parish breakfast fundraiser.

Those wishing to attend are asked to RSVP by calling 906-789-6244. The church is located at 709 1st Ave. South.
