Arndt family benefit

ROCK — A spaghetti benefit is planned for the Arndt family of Rock, who lost their home to a house fire on Jan. 2 The event will take place at the Rock Lions Club on Saturday, Jan. 25 from 4 to 7 p.m.

There is a cost for the dinner, but children age three and under eat free.

The event will also include a silent action, bucket raffles, and 50/50 drawings. Silent auction bidding is now open at the Rock Senior Center during regular hours, but final bids will be taken at the benefit.

Donations for the Arndt family are also being accepted at the Rock Credit Union and the Mid Peninsula School.

GHS Class of 1970 50th class reunion meeting

GLADSTONE — The Gladstone High School Class of 1970 is holding a 50th class reunion meeting on Wednesday, Jan. 22 at 3 p.m. at The Gladstone Yacht Club.

All classmates are encouraged to attend to help plan this milestone reunion.

‘Blue Mass’ planned

ESCANABA — A special “Blue Mass” will be held in honor of first responders and those who have fallen in the line of duty at St. Joseph & St. Patrick Parish in Escanaba on Jan. 26.

The service is for people of all faiths. All police officers, correctional officers, firefighters, military, dispatchers EMT personnel or anyone who serves the public is welcome to attend, in uniform or not.

Medals will be distributed, and Fr. Tim Ferguson will be happy to bless any and all vehicles after Mass. Public safety officers will receive free breakfast after mass at a parish breakfast fundraiser.

Cornell seniors to meet

CORNELL — Cornell Township Hall Seniors meet first the Thursday of the month. The next meeting will be held Feb. 6. Lunch will be at noon, and attendees are asked to bring a dish to pass.

There will be a small bingo gift for those who want to play.

Taco Tuesday returns

GLADSTONE — Taco Tuesday is back at the Gladstone American Legion Post 71. Serving is from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. The public is welcome.

The events are held at Gladstone American Legion Auxiliary Unit 71, 802 Delta Ave. in Gladstone.

MADD seeks volunteers

ESCANABA — Volunteers are needed for MADD. Opportunities are available for those interested in volunteering a couple of times a year or a couple of times a week. There are a wide variety of opportunities to match interests and expertise. Some options include speaking, answering the help-line calls, organizing victim impact panels, mailing information or just displaying MADD red ribbons.

Purple Heart meeting

ESCANABA — The Military Order of the Purple Heart (MOPH) Chapter 1976 will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 30, at the clubhouse building, 1202 Sheridan Road.

The MOPH is for all military veterans who sustained combat wounds during their service to the country. For details, contact Dennis Grall at 789-9005.

Used books sought

ESCANABA — The Delta County League of Women voters is looking for donations of books, audiobooks, DVDs and music CDs to be sold at its annual book sale in August. The League is also in need of large print books, which are often requested.

Funds from the annual sale are used to publish voter guides and for other voter services.

Donated materials should be no more than 10 years old and in good condition.

Books can be delivered to the Daily Press Business Office at 600 Ludington Street during normal business hours. For pick up, call Pat Rudden at 280-1789.
