Father Daughter Dance set for Feb. 9 at YMCA

ESCANABA — The Northern Lights YMCA and Radio Results Network have once again paired up to host the annual Father Daughter Sweetheart Dance. This year’s dance will be Feb. 9 at the Terrace Bay Inn in Gladstone. The dance will begin with a dinner at 6 p.m. with music and dancing to follow. Doors will open at 5:30 p.m. and close at 8:30 p.m.

“This is a great event for daughters and their dads, grandpas, uncles, or any other male role model. Instant memories are made!” said Katey Huber, YMCA Youth Program Coordinator. “Every girl attending receives a flower at the door, the chance to win door prizes, but more importantly get a special date night with dad.”

AAUW New Year’s ­gathering set for Jan. 17

ESCANABA — AAUW members and guests will meet at the House of Ludington at 5:30 p.m. on Jan. 17 for their annual New Year gathering. The evening will include hors d’oeuvres, door prizes, music, and a cash bar.

Members are asked to bring a donation for the Tri-County Safe Harbor shelter. This can be in the form of personal items such as toothpaste, toothbrushes, deodorant, soap, washcloths, socks or gift certificates, monetary donations, paper products that can be utilized by the shelter.

Members are encouraged to bring a guest. Those planning to attend this event should call 789-1905 no later than Jan. 14. There is a per-person price for the evening.

AAUW is open to men and women holding an associate’s degree or higher. Established in 1881, it promotes equity for women and girls through advocacy and research. For more information on AAUW, call 474-6545.

Legion opens library

RAPID RIVER — Walter W. Cole American Legion Post 301 in Rapid River has opened a library in the legion hall.

The library is free to all and is open from 5 to 9 p.m. Mondays, Service Officer Wednesday, as well as any other days that the hall is open to the public

St. Thomas pasty sale

ESCANABA — St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church pasty sale will be held Jan. 14 and 15, from 2 to 5 p.m. The church is located at 1820 9th Avenue North in Escanaba. Pasties are available with or without rutabaga. To place an order, call 786-7053.

Line dancing at senior center every week

Line dancing class every is held Wednesday for beginners at 12:45 to 2:30 p.m. at Escanaba Senior Center. Sit N Fit classes are held Monday and Friday at the Senior Center from 11 to 11:45 a.m.

Golden K Kiwanis ­meetings Wednesdays

ESCANABA — The Escanaba Golden K Kiwanis hold weekly meetings every Wednesday at 10 a.m. at the Escanaba Civic Center, located at 225 N. 21st St. in ­Escanaba.

ESCANABA — The Community Service Center food pantry adjacent to the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Escanaba is open from 1 to 4 p.m. on Monday and Saturday.
