Bay de Noc Peggers’ play paused for summer

GLADSTONE — The Bay de Noc Peggers Club 218 has halted cribbage play for the summer. Regular play will resume the Monday after Labor Day, Sept. 10, and will run for 36 weeks.

During the playing season, play takes place Monday at 7 p.m. at the Lake Bluff Retirement Village Community Center. The play consists of nine games of cribbage against nine players.

The club apologizes for any inconvenience. Call Joe or Donna Aird at 428-3844 for any information.

Wells Lions 52 club ­raffle winner named

WELLS — The winner of the Wells Lions Club raffle for the week of July 9 is Pat Rudden of Escanaba. Rudden won $100. This was week 49 of the raffle.

Country Express to play at Amvets this Friday

ESCANABA — Amvets Post 123 at 1315 North Lincoln Road Escanaba is featuring country and variety band Country Express Friday, July 13 from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. The public is welcome.

Escanaba Eagles 1088 breakfast this Sunday

ESCANABA — The Escanaba Eagles 1088 will serve breakfast from 9 a.m. till 1 p.m. on Sunday, July 15 at the Eagles Hall 608 Ludington Street, Escanaba. A fee will be charged. The public is welcome to attend.

St. Joseph Parish picnic

PERKINS — There will be a parish picnic held at St. Joseph Parish in Perkins, on Sunday, July 15, from noon till 4 p.m. All are welcome. There is a fee for food provided at the picnic, and raffles will be held.

NARFE Chapter 1900 pasty picnic July 25

MARQUETTE — The National Active and Retired Federal Employees Association (NARFE) Chapter 1900 will hold its annual members’ pasty picnic at noon, Wednesday, July 25, at the Crossroads Restaurant on M553 and CR480 south of Marquette.

This year’s event will celebrate the chapter’s 35th anniversary and will include recognition of people who have been chapter members for 30 years or more.

The meal will include a pasty, coleslaw and a non-alcoholic beverage. The meal is free for Chapter 1900 members and one guest per member. Members must register for the meal by July 18 by contacting Diana Peterson at (906) 225-0333, or Clyde and Maggie Morgan at (906) 475-0362

Legislators, legislative candidates and their representatives have been invited for brief remarks. A memorial service will honor NARFE members who passed away in the past year.

The pasty picnic takes the place of the regular monthly NARFE meeting for July.

Rapid Readers to hold July meeting Thursday

RAPID RIVER — “Still Life” by Louise Penny will be discussed at the Thursday. July 12, meeting of Rapid Readers at Jack’s Restaurant in Rapid River at 10 a.m.

Members are reminded to bring their choices from the selection list or others to this meeting. Novels for the next reading list will be determined.

GLADSTONE — The American Legion in Gladstone will not be having Taco Tuesdays for the months of July and August.
