Hughes celebrate 50 years of marriage

ESCANABA — Dan and Lorraine (LaLa) Hughes of Escanaba, celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on Dec. 15.

The couple were married at St. Anne’s Catholic Church on Dec. 15, 1973. Their best man was David Oslund, and groomsmen were Mitch Jensen, Allen Sturdy, friends of the groom, and Greg Hughes, brother of the groom. The bride chose all of her sisters as attendants: Rosemary Hendrickson, Maid of Honor; Mary Lequia, Catherine Carlson, and Linda Benike were her bridesmaids.

A reception was held in the couples honor at the Chamber of Commerce Building in Escanaba, on Dec. 29, all bridesmaids were able to attend the celebration, along with groomsmen, Allen Sturdy. Deacon Terry Saunders, led the couple in the renewal of their marriage vows. Special friend and honored guest, Msgr. Michael Steber of Marquette, was in attendance and led the meal prayer.

The couple’s children honored them by performing the Vince Gill song, “Look at Us.”

Dan and LaLa enjoy, snowshoeing, and hanging out at their “Swamp” in the winter, and hiking and camping in the summer. They recently purchased a Jeep, and love to drive around and explore.

The couple has four children: Daniel (Cambria) Hughes, Sheila (John) Krueger, of Escanaba, Nicholas (Naya) Hughes, Memphis, and David Hughes, of Chicago. They have nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
