Dutkavichs celebrate 50 years of marriage

LaVern and Marilyn (Winkler) Dutkavich

ESCANABA — LaVern and Marilyn (Winkler) Dutkavich were married 50 years ago on April 15, 1972, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Yale, Mich. They celebrated their 50 Anniversary with Mass and a renewal of their vows, by Father Fran DeGroot, at St. Anne Catholic Church in Escanaba on May 21, 2022.

They hosted a celebration reception at the Elks Club after Mass, with dinner and dancing for family members and friends. Five members of their original wedding party were in attendance, including LaVern’s friends Larry Winfield, groomsman, from Las Vegas, Nev.; and Robert Hewitt, groomsman from Apache Junction, Ariz. Marilyn’s two sisters Patricia Dziak, maid of honor, from Lansing, Mich.; and Pamela Winkler, bridesmaid, from Port Huron, Mich. attended the reception, as well as Marilyn’s close friend, Sandra (Wilson) Hess, bridesmaid, from The Villages in Florida.

They have two sons, Michael (Shannon) of Gladstone and Kevin (Stephanie) of Eau Claire, Wis. They have three granddaughters, Grace, Sophia and Ashley.

The couple also celebrated with family by going to Florida and visiting Disney World over the Christmas holiday. Since it was Disney World’s 50 anniversary the family felt it was fitting to celebrate Marilyn and LaVern’s 50 anniversary there too.

LaVern retired from the State of Michigan Department of Labor after 30 years of service as an investigator for the Wage and Hour Division in November of 2002. LaVern enjoys riding his Harley Trike and is a life member of the Elks Club and member of the Lions Club.
