Roots celebrate 60th wedding anniversary

ESCANABA — Jerry and Nancy (Ball) Root celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary. The couple was wed May 13, 1961, at Salvation Army Citadel, Sault Ste. Marie, Mich.

Original attendants at the ceremony were Ruth (Lovegrove) Bartz, friend of bride; Muriel (VanLuven) Denton, friend of the bride; Bob Russell, brother-in-law of bride; and Bob Skeldon, friend of the groom.

Jerry is a retired school teacher and coach. He continues today to broadcast sports on the radio. His wife, Nancy is a retired registered nurse and piano teacher, today she volunteers as a RSVP Volunteer.

Jerry and Nancy both attend Grace Church in Gladstone, are members of Gideons, and were formerly active in church music together. They both enjoy traveling, camping, and visiting family.

The couple’s children are Dan Root, of Escanaba; Wendy (Bob) Buckley, of Houston, Texas; Susan (Steve) Flach, of Scotts, Mich.; and Steve Root (Margaret), of Sand Lake, Mich.

They have five grandchildren, Jordan Buckley and Taylor (Josh) Clark of Houston, Texas; Haley Flach and Chase Flach, of Scotts, Mich.; and Geroge Root, of Sand Lake, Mich.
