Robinsons celebrate 50 years of marriage

Dave and Linda Robinson

BARK RIVER — In December 1968 — while babysitting, Linda Krause saw in the Delta Reporter, “Send A Christmas Card To A Serviceman,” so she did! This would lead to a 13-month penpal letter writing before they would finally meet face to face.

In January 1970, Dave Robinson returned home, and the following week started employment at Mead Paper Company. This job would continue for the next 42 1/2 years until his retirement in 2011.

Linda would get a job working for the Escanaba Schools for 32 1/2 years until her retirement in 2012.

On Nov. 28, 1970, Dave and Linda were married at St. Pauls’ Lutheran Church in Hyde. A small reception was held at the Ford River Townhall. Attendants for the couple were Francis Brunette, Dave Phalen, Richard Smith, Wanda Wills, Alyce Jacobson, Sharon Herioux, Jeff (Jay) Robinson, and Debbie Smith.

An acre of land was given to the couple from the Krause family farm, so life began in a 8×40′ trailer. Later, a house would be erected, and the couple would raise three children there, Mary Robinson, of Escanaba; Cissie Patterson, of Oxford, Mich.; and Johnny, of Custer, Mich.

They now have six grandchildren.

Their home was also opened for several young people who needed a place to stay and a hug.

Both Dave and Linda got COVID-19 in the middle of November, so a very private celebration was held for their 50th anniversary. Friday evening, the couple was surprised with perch dinners and a wedding cake delivered by their niece Lisa Gagnon.

On Saturday, Nov. 28, the couple had a candle light dinner at their kitchen table, complete with flowers, wine wedding cake and prime rib dinner, all delivered by their godchild Patti Herioux.

Today you will find the couple sitting on the banks of the Ford River camping, riding their golf cart and enjoying all the beauty of God’s creation.
