PERKINS — A 50-year celebration was held in honor of Dale and Cathy Couillard at the Gladstone Campgrounds in August of 2018. A Gladstone native fondly boasting he was an “East Ender,” Dale shared laughter and memories of family and friends of his hometown. The blushing bride, Cathy, who grew up in Perkins and is a native of Eaton Rapid, recalled how Dale resembled Buddy Holly and was a handsome young man. The two high school sweethearts were united in marriage Dec. 7, 1968 by Father Matt. Their reception was held at the Perkins Legion Hall and the band members who played for the reception were Willard “Dickie” Clark, John Flinn and Cal Morrow. Dale’s best man was his brother Henry, and Cathy’s maid of honor was her sister Dava. They were blessed to have both sets of parents with them; Dale’s parents, Henry J. and Prudence E. Couillard, and Cathy’s parents, Lloyd M. and Betty J. Brown.

The newlywed couple made their home in Gladstone for a few years and moved to Perkins, where they bought their first home that they still live in today. They have two daughters, Cindy and Jason Wicklund of Rapid River, and Shelly and Dean Forslund of Rock, and three grandsons, the absolute center of their lives: Tyler and Gunner Wicklund and Edward Forslund. They also have three grand-dogs: Bodie, Duke and Sid.

Dale is retired from U.P. Pipe Company in Escanaba and was a volunteer firefighter and first responder for more than half of his life at the Baldwin Fire Department. He was previously employed at Harnischfeger and Soo Railroad. Cathy was employed at Rapid River Cheese factory and several jobs throughout the years, but was fortunate to be able to stay home with their daughters providing years of taxi duty, cook/chef, counselor, homework over-seer, uniform cleaner, and everything under the sun. She is a terrific cook, seamstress, artist and planner. She is a member of the Perkins Legion. Both are extremely hard workers and committed to family and friends and a lifetime of helping others and living life to its fullest. They enjoy camping, bonfires, bean bags, pool, darts, euchre, 4-wheeling, impromptu trips and visits, travel, pontooning and spending time with their family and friends.

Starting at $3.50/week.
