Response to letter

EDITOR: I appreciate you publishing my letters, and am thankful for you printing the response to one from Rita Wickham contesting some of my points re/mass shootings. I’ll expand on some points. Propaganda, (lets just stick w/”assault weapons”) was used extensively in reportage ignoring defined facts as to what an assault weapon is, or is not. I contend and provide evidence the weapon used was not an assault weapon, Wickham, without defining it, insists it is (please honor us with a definition). Wickham also says that carbine “… shoots well enough for it’s cheap … ...

Fact over assumption

EDITOR: I wish to respond to Ed Fluery’s letter in which he stated that myself, Commissioner Barron and Commissioner Petersen conspired to annex property from Escanaba Township into Cornell Township. Nothing could be further from the truth, the issue hasn’t been brought to us yet, this means we have yet to discuss the issue. I’m not sure where Mr. Flurry gets his information. He is entitled to his own opinion, but not entitled to his own facts. There are five members on the commission. Myself, Bob Barron, and Bob Peterson, haven’t conspired to do anything. He neglected to ...

Airport issue

EDITOR: I regularly attend airport board meetings, which occur monthly at the Delta County Airport. Ms. Andrea Numillen, our Delta County Airport manager, has been without an assistant manager since February 23. On March 13, the Airport Advisory Board unanimously voted in favor of a resolution for compensation for Ms. Numillen and requested it to be forwarded to the board of commissioners, as she was doing the work of two jobs. Precedence had been set by the board of commissioners by paying our interim county administrator two full wages, that of administrator and that of ...

Delta County Board

EDITOR: I have been following the charade at the Delta County commissioners meetings that the band of three along with the interm administrator have been engaged in since the commission opted to terminate former administrator. The band of three commissioners have been playing a game with the public in attempting to convince them with the support of the interim administrator that installing her as the interim delta county administrator as dictated by her terms is in their best interests. The public in not ignorant as you seem to think they are, but we are sick and tired of your ...

Attempt to rekindle industrial solar project

EDITOR: The current attempt by certain elected members of the Delta County Board of Commissioners to reduce the size of Escanaba Township by approximately 50% (19,000 plus acres) by circulating a petition to alter the boundary lines of Escanaba and Cornell Townships is nothing more than a “back door” attempt to rekindle the Industrial Solar Project so soundly rejected by Escanaba Township residents several years ago. It just so happens that a certain Commissioner, Mr. Robert Barron, is one of the largest land owners contained within the 19,000 plus acres noted in the proposal. As ...

Reactions to mass shootings

EDITOR: Michael Glass (‘another school shooting’) accused liberals of reacting to mass shootings with propaganda (accurate or shaded messaging, selectively using persuasive facts and loaded language to influence desired thinking). However, much of his letter is NRA propaganda. A chilling U.S. statistic: we’ve had >160 mass shootings, in which an assailant wounded or killed 4 or more people, in the first 105 days of 2023! Can you imagine the stunned and grieving people who previously thought, ‘Not in my town’. Unlike hunting/sporting guns, semiautomatics are civilian ...
