Fact over assumption

EDITOR:

I wish to respond to Ed Fluery’s letter in which he stated that myself, Commissioner Barron and Commissioner Petersen conspired to annex property from Escanaba Township into Cornell Township. Nothing could be further from the truth, the issue hasn’t been brought to us yet, this means we have yet to discuss the issue. I’m not sure where Mr. Flurry gets his information. He is entitled to his own opinion, but not entitled to his own facts. There are five members on the commission. Myself, Bob Barron, and Bob Peterson, haven’t conspired to do anything. He neglected to mention John Melnar and Steve Viau, does he have information we don’t?

Unless he’s claiming something illegal, and has facts as back up, I strongly suggest he bases his attacks on facts, not assumptions. He is also a public figure and should hold himself to a higher standard.

Since being elected chair in January, I have faced much unjust criticism from a group of obstructionists that can’t to get it through their heads, the public spoke in November of 2022. They’re so convoluted in their hatred of me, they’re willing to throw the county under the bus to achieve their political goals. I wish to publicly state we have not discussed annexation, that is a conversation that will take place in a public forum at a public meeting, shame on you sir for starting rumors in this county.

Having served the public for 13 years as a commissioner, I invite anyone to go back and check my record. You might not agree with my politics, but you will not in any way uncover mischief, wrongdoing, or anything that would damage this county when looking at my voting record or policies.

The people spoke clearly, yet at every meeting, the same group of people lineup to take pot shots at the county board, and will continue doing this because they bring nothing to the table other than negativity.

The issue of annexation will be brought to the county board in the next month, from there it will go before the people. I work for the people in Delta County as do the other four commissioners on the county board, and you can be assured that none of the commissioners have discussed this issue in a way that Mr. Flurry suggests may have happened.

As usual I’m reaching out and asking the public for input, I want to know how this would impact you. Mr. Flurry please restrict your attacks to a factual basis. I would strongly suggest that Ed busy himself reaching out to his constituents in Cornell to find out their feelings regarding annexation, quit spreading your opinion based on assumption, The people deserve better. In all my years serving the public I have never had to write a letter like this to another public figure, I’ve had no need to, until now.
