Pepin to receive award for work in prosecutor’s office

ESCANABA — District Court Clerk and Delta County prosecutor’s Office Manager Christine Pepin will receive state recognition through the Frances A. Smith Prosecutor Staff Achievement Award.

The Prosecuting Attorney Association of Michigan established the special award to recognize administrative professionals and office managers who have made a significant community impact over the course of their careers.

Award Guidelines are: The person’s career contributions should exemplify leadership in their office or in their community that goes beyond the day-to-day activities of the position.The person’s career contributions should also have made a difference that resulted in the improved operation of the prosecutor’s office through innovation, management or customer service.

While nominations required no specific number of years of service in a prosecutor’s office, longevity was considered when choosing the most qualified person to receive the award.

Former Delta County Prosecutor, Philip Storm nominated Pepin and submitted supporting letters from District Court Judge Steven Parks and AFSCME Local 2755, Courthouse Chapter Chair Connie J. Friets.

Pepin has been in public service working for Delta county since 1995. She has held multiple positions in the Delta County Prosecutor’s office and is currently the office manger and district court clerk. Prior to working for Delta County, Pepin worked at the Daily Press where she had the privilege of reporting on events throughout the community and highlighting the wonderful organizations and individuals who live in Delta County.

She has been involved with Delta County Trades and Labor Council since the mid 1980s and served as recording secretary for 20 years. She was fundraiser chair for Council’s annual charity/scholarship fundraiser for the past 10 years and continues to be a board member for the charity fund. Christine served as AFSCME 2755 union officer for approximately 20 years serving as a steward, chapter chair and the local president. She helped establish the first Delta County labor management committee in the 1990s.

Pepin was a founding member for the Teen Alcohol Grant Project with Gary Lark and other law enforcement officials and local residents in the early 1990s. She served as treasurer for many years on the Teen Alcohol Grant Committee.

Pepin has been married to her husband Pat for 30 years. She has three children, Amy, Alex and Daniel, and eight grandchildren. She is looking forward to retirement at the end of this summer so she can travel, go camping, spend time with family and continue to volunteer with other organizations.
