Bottle drive

GLADSTONE — The Gladstone Indians baseball program is holding a can and bottle drive fundraiser Friday, July 5 at Pat’s Foods in Gladstone from noon-5 p.m. For questions, contact Jodi Westerberg (906-420-0802).

Firecracker Run

GLADSTONE — The Fran Cannon 5 mile run/2.5 mile walk, hosted by the Gladstone-Rapid River Kiwanis, is July 4 at 8 a.m. Timing will be done by Superior Timing of Marquette. There is also a one-mile fun run for kids age 12 and under.

Cancer Alliance

golf scramble

ESCANABA — The 24th Annual Delta County Cancer Alliance golf scramble will be held July 11 at Escanaba Country Club.

The four-person scramble fundraiser begins with lunch at 11 a.m. and a shotgun start at noon. It will conclude with a steak supper at 5 p.m.

Entry fee is $80 per player. It is open to the public. Entry deadline is July 10, and golfers can call the pro shop (786-4430) or sign up at the clubhouse.

The golf event is one of three primary fundraisers for the Cancer Alliance and is sponsored by WDBC-WYKX radio and the Radio Results Network.

All proceeds are used by the Cancer Alliance to assist Delta County cancer patients. More than $1 million has been raised and distributed locally to more than 2,000 patients since the organization began in 1995.

Donations from area residents, merchants, businesses and trust funds are used to support cancer patients and their families.

To donate prizes for the golf outing, contact DCCA president Cheri Severinsen (786-1365) or ECC golf director Jeff Rae (786-4430).

The DCCA has a loan closet for patients to obtain free use of wheelchairs, commodes, canes, lift chairs, shower chairs, bedside tables, walkers, wigs, hospital beds, Depends, Ensure and other supplies.

The DCCA office is located at 3430 Ludington St.

Golf scramble

MANISTIQUE — The 37th Annual Indian Lake Golf Club four-man scramble takes place June 22-23. The double shotgun start event is expected to draw 288 golfers from the Upper Peninsuia, Lower Michigan, Wisconsin, Canada and other states.

Play begins June 22 at 7:45 a.m. for the first half of the field. Remaining groups tee off at 2 p.m.

ECC men’s golf

ESCANABA — Randy Severinsen, Jordan Lemire and Brian Robinette each fired a 2-under-par 34 in the Escanaba County Club Men’s Nine-Hole League Thursday. They were followed by Dave Harris 35, Dom Benetti 36, Jude VanDamme 37, John Dailey, Tyler Delvaux, Jeff McCall and Ed Legault 38 and Steve Scott, Jeff Canull and Mike Beveridge 39.

Robinette led the way in the 18-hole league at 69, followed by Lemire 70, Harris and Randy Eis 71, Scott and Legault 75, McCall and Tom Zeni 76, Benetti 77 and Jake Berlinski 78.

Bucs split twinbill

BARK RIVER — The Bark River Bucs split a season-opening American Legion baseball doubleheader with the Negaunee Diamonds Thursday, winning the first game 3-2 and dropping the nightcap 9-0. Other details weren’t available.
