ESCANABA — Twelve-year-old Isaiah Miller of Manistique took another step up the ladder, the one he needed to earn top honors in the age 8-12 division of the 36th Annual Great Lakes Youth Pool tournament here Saturday. The Michigan Department of Natural Resources surveys the diverse and important Great Lakes fisheries every year between April and November. Crews from research stations in Marquette, Charlevoix, Alpena and Harrison Township gather data on fish populations, fish health and the presence and effects of invasive species.
