Michigan Department of Natural Resources Conservation Officers Zach Painter and Jenni Hanson stand with 110th District State Rep. Greg Markkanen and special state of Michigan tributes they received Saturday, March 2 at the DNR office in Baraga from Gov. Gretchen Whitmer, 38th District State Sen. Ed McBroom and Markkanen. he tributes were issued “with deep appreciation, respect and admiration for all of the hard work, commitment, determination, professionalism and sense of duty exhibited” by the conservation officers. On the evening of Feb. 9, 2009, under extreme weather conditions consisting of snow, ice and remote terrain, the officers risked their personnel safety in successfully rescuing four stranded snowmobilers in Ontonagon County.
