Optimism is brewing for Escanaba boys track team

ESCANABA — They may be a little young, but there is optimism brewing among the ranks of the Escanaba boys’ track and field team as it begins a new season. Esky, which opens in today’s Gladstone Invitational at 3:30, has 28 on its roster. “We have a strong turnout among our younger guys,” coach Scott Dykema says. “Some of the juniors moved over from baseball and our underclassmen are pretty athletic. Esky girls look to rebuild this track season

ESCANABA — With low numbers and having a very young track and field team the Escanaba girls figure to be rebuilding this season. The Eskymos, who open in Thursday’s Gladstone Invitational, have 13 on their roster which includes 11 underclassmen. Gone through graduation is Alisha Mabie, who’s running cross country and track at Northern Michigan University. Esky’s lone senior is Giada Frau, an exchange student from Italy, who’s entered in the sprints.
