HERMANSVILLE — Manistique High School’s baseball field may not be ready for games but that didn’t stop the Emeralds from taking the field for a doubleheader here Monday. Manistique played as the home team in their second doubleheader against North Central.

The Emeralds came away with a 6-5 victory in game one and fell 6-2 in the second game that was called after four innings due to weather.

Manistique freshman Brayden Lancour hit a ground ball that was fielded and thrown to home plate but was not in time as the Emeralds walked off against the Jets in game one.

“I was just happy we were able to get that run in,” Lancour said. “I did swing at a couple of bad pitches in the dirt but I was happy to put the ball in play and give my teammates a chance to score.”

The Emeralds got on the board first in the bottom of the first inning as Luke Benish singled to the left side of the infield and Dominic Sears drew a walk, each scoring a run.

The Jets jumped into the lead in the top of the third inning as Nathan Pipkorn had a two-run single and Brooks Castle and Ben Stage each drew bases loaded walks to put the Jets up 4-2.

The Emeralds tied the game in the fourth inning on a ground out by Landon Papple and a passed ball that brought home a pair of runs.

Castle was electric on the bases in the top of the sixth inning scoring on a bad throw to give the Jets the lead but were unable to close the gap.

“This is our fourth game of the season,” Emeralds coach Greg Bambach said.

In the second game, the Jets quickly put three runs on the board highlighted by an RBI single by Castle.

Papple had an RBI-single in the bottom of the first to cut the deficit to 3-1.

The Jets added two runs in the top of the sixth inning as Pipkorn had a two-run single to put the Jets up 5-1.

“We got the bat on the ball which is what we were missing in the first game,” Pipkorn said. “That’s what separates you from wins and losses is coming up with big hits and we did that well in game two.”

Kaden Malone got the start on the mound and allowed two runs on one hit with seven strikeouts and three walks.

Starting at $3.50/week.
