ESCANABA — Walks and errors told the story here Tuesday night as the Escanaba Cubs defeated Niagara 20-1. Carter Seidel got the start for Niagara and allowed eight runs on three hits with eight walks in the first inning. Daunte Sandoval took over in relief and gave up 12 runs and walked 10 batters. The Cubs had a two run single in the first inning to put the Cubs up 6-0. GLADSTONE — The Fran Cannon Firecracker five and 2½-mile run is taking place here July 4. Also included is a 2½-mile walk and a one-mile kids’ run. Entry fee is $35 for the five-mile run, $30 for the 2½-mile run and $20 for the walk. The kids’ run, which begins at 8 a.m., costs $15 to enter. The other events start at 8:15. Race material can be picked up at the large pavilion across from the State Police post July 2 from 4:30-6:30 p.m. Raceday registration also takes place prior to the races at the same location. ESCANABA — The Gregg Johnson/Al Erickson Memorial tournament will take place this weekend with 10 teams making the trip. Games will be played on Friday and Saturday at The Bay College Field in Wells and Al Ness Field in Escanaba. The semifinals and championship game will take place at Al Ness Field on Sunday. The 10 teams are split into two pools. Pool A consists of Escanaba, Niagra, Kewaunee County, Sheboygan and Sault Ste Marie.
