GLADSTONE — Ever since his days in preschool, Trevor Thorbahn has had a love for wrestling and now in his senior year of high school he has one goal that has eluded him and one he hopes to capture this season. That goal is an individual state championship.
“I took third in the state finals last season,” Thorbahn said. “I have put in a lot of work this season and even before the season started to get ready for this season.” Thorbahn is currently ranked No. 1 in the state in division 3.
Thorbahn won two Myway State Championships, the first one coming when he was in Kindergarten and the second one coming when he was in eighth grade. During his eighth grade year, Thorbahn earned his 300th with an average of 37.5 wins per year.
“I realized at a very early age that I loved to wrestle,” Thorbahn said. “I had some really big moments in my youth, winning the Myway tournament twice was big but high school is where it really got going for me.”
At the state tournament his junior year he picked up his 100th career wrestling victory. Thorbahn is 19-3 in matches this season and his high school career record sits at 126-29.

“Trevor is the ultimate competitor,” Braves coach Ryan Harrenstein said. “When you say someone hates to lose, he is the definition of that. That fuels him to work hard at everything he does and it shows on the mat and on the football field or anywhere else you come in contact with him.”
Thorbahn is a three-time U.P. Champion as well as a four-time individual district champion.
“His work ethic is second to none,” Harrenstein said. “He would go to freestyle tournaments in the spring while playing baseball, running track and throwing shot put he is a determined worker and his detail right down to the smallest thing helps drive him to be successful and that is really what separates from other athletes.”
Trevor Thorbahn is looking to make it back to the individual state tournament on March 6th and 7th at Ford Field in Detroit.
