RAPID RIVER — North Central girls found themselves on the right side of the scoreboard here Thursday night as they knocked off the Rapid River Rockets 32-20.

The Jets jumped out to an early 4-0 lead as senior Dalyn Otradovec and sophomore Natalie Willa each had layups.

The Rockets went on a 6-1 run as Julia Poma made a jumper and Aubrey Olson drove to the basket for a layup to cut the deficit to one. The Rockets took the lead at 6-5 on a mid-range jumper by Victoria Coppock.

“These girls never give up.” Rockets coach Katie Poma said. “They play as hard as they can for all 32 minutes. They are very tough on the defensive side and we are still working on the offensive side but improvements are showing.”

It was all jets in the second quarter, as they outscored the Rockets 8-2 with the Rockets only point coming on a pair of free throws, The Rockets went nearly 13 minutes without a field goal as Olson knocked down a mid-range jumper to cut the Jets lead to 21-9.

The Jets ended an 11-2 run on a layup by Otradovec to extend the Jets lead to 26-11.

“An ugly win is a win,” Jets coach Brooke Granquist said. “I feel like both sides were sloppy and didn’t execute like we would have but noe we have to get ready for districts on Monday.”

The Rockets did score the last seven p[oints of the game and looked pretty good over the final three minutes of the fourth quarter.

“We started to get things going at the end,” Katie Poma said. “We are starting to see flashes of what we want to be now we have to get to where we are at that point for the whole game.”

The Jets were led by Dalyn Otradovec with 13 points and the Rockets were led by Aubrey Olson with 10.
