Dec. 30, 1960 — Ed Provo scored a hat trick, leading the Escanaba Hawks in an 11-1 rout of K.I. Sawyer. Dave Goymerac and LeRoy Lancour hit two goals each and Gerald Liebie, Bob Rodman and Tom Johnson had one apiece. Hawks’ goaltender John Pearson stopped 23 shots.

Dec. 30, 1965 — Bill Hawrylow scored 20 points, leading the Powers-Spalding Tigers to a 61-54 upset victory over the previously undefeated Channing Railroaders in the Big Seven Conference Holiday basketball tournament’s championship game. David Smith added 17 and Dick Piche hit 12. Bob Roell led the Railroaders with 21 and Randy Swanson contributed 18.

The Hermansville Redskins defeated the Alpha Mastadons 71-64 in the consolation game. Randy Fochesato scored 21 points for the Redskins and Tim Stankewicz paced Alpha with 27.

Dec. 31, 1965 — Phil Hartman tossed in 17 points, but it wasn’t enough to prevent the Cooks Clippers from dropping a 74-49 decision to coach Fred Boddy’s Marquette Bishop Baraga Royals in the title contest of the Eben Holiday tournament. Bruce Swaggart scored 13 and Neil Hartman finished with 12. Bruce Pesola was Bishop Baraga’s leader with 19.

Larry Lippens led a balanced scoring attack, helping the Rock Little Giants defeat the Garden Jets 62-56 in the consolation contest. Mike Dube added 18 and Pat Dube had 10. Brent Rochefort paced the Jets with 24 and Mike Thibault tallied 15.

Dec. 29, 1975 — My Brother’s Place of Green Bay retained its basketball title in the Escanaba Holiday Classic in a come-from-behind 81-73 triumph over Escanaba Phil & Lee’s Mobile Homes. Bud Macco led the winners with 30 points, including eight in the final minute. Former St. Norbert College standout Dennis Oudenheven paced Phil & Lee’s with 25 points. Jerry Erickson contributed 17 points and Terry Dufour added 13.
