Bay College men and women have success at Terrace Bay Tip-Off Classic

ESCANABA — Bay College’s basketball teams prevailed in a pair of barnburners here Saturday.
The men rallied past Rock Valley (Ill.) 71-68 and the women edged the Golden Eagles 67-65.
Munising graduate Trevor Nolan played a major role in the men’s victory, providing the Norse with 10 points and four steals off the bench.
The Norse were trailing 46-41 midway through the second half when Nolan stole a pass and hit an off-balance 3-point shot and tied the contest at 46 on a layup.
Bay freshman Adam Page, who scored 12 of his 15 points in the second half, gave the Norse a 69-68 on a 3-point shot with 16 seconds remaining.
Freshman Ziad Abounali, a 6-9 freshman from Egypt, then sealed the deal with a pair of free throws with a pair of free throws in the closing moments.
Page led the Norse with 15 points, including a dozen in the second half. Abonunalli finished with 13 and Trey Frye III added 10.
The Norse (2-0) finished with a 40-39 rebounding edge, hit 25-of-63 field goals and committed 11 turnovers.
Adam Brown scored 22 points and Jajuan added 21 points and nine rebounds for Rock Valley (1-1), which sank 21-of-50 shots, and had 15 miscues.
Sophomore Lauren Zawada led the Bay women with 18 points and 14 boards. Makenna Hendrickson added 17 points and nine rebounds and Mckenzie Hoffmeyer chipped in with 14 points and five assists.
Bay (2-0), which was outrebounded 57-54, finished 25-of-77 from the floor and committed 12 turnovers. The visitors from Rockford, Ill. drained 27-of-69 shots and had 11 miscues.
Amadea Montijo paced the Golden Eagles with 18 points. Jazelle Young contributed 14 points and DeNiya Gary tallied 13 points, four assists and four steals.
Bay College’s Nina Bower scored 15 points and Addison Cullen scored 12 in a 94-28 rout of Lorain County (Ohio) Friday night.
The Norse finished with a 62-36 rebounding advantage, drained 34-76 field goals and had 13 turnovers.
Lorain was a frigid 10-of-43 from the field and committed 37 turnovers.
The Bay men defeated Minnesota North-Hibbing 95-75 in their opener.
Vann led the way with 21 points. Savion Johnson hit 13. Abouali added 12 and Page had 11.
The Norse finished with a 42-32 rebounding advantage and 37-of-71 from the field and had 15 turnovers. Hibbing hit 22-of-49 shots and had 20 miscues.
R.J. Walker sank 9-of-20 field goals and 15-of-18 free throws while leading the Cardinals with 34 points. David Nelson had 10 points.
The Norse are idle until Nov. 12 when they host Gogebic Community College.
