ESCANABA — Mikey D’s Beer Cave used a nine-run sixth inning to take down the Marquette Mavericks 13-4 in a Superiorland baseball contest here Monday.
Mikey D’s came out hot as they scored two runs in the bottom of the first inning on a pair of RBI-doubles by Cam Kelly and Bon LaChance.
The Mavericks responded in the top of the third inning scoring four runs highlighted by a two-run single by Steve Hintsula.
Mikey D answered back as Eli Gardner scored on a wild pitch in the fourth inning and Cam Kelly scored on an RBI-double by LaChance in the fifth inning.
Matthew Richer was the first batter to get on base in the sixth inning as he got on after getting hit by a pitch following the 0-1 count. Tyler Lawson doubled to put runners on second and third with one out. Cam Kelly hit a sacrifice fly to bring in the run to break the tie.
“I haven’t picked up a bat since May,” Kelly said. “This was my first time seeing live pitching in a while so I was just hunting fastballs and trying to get on base.”
Brooks Castle put the game away with a bases-loaded double to extend the lead to 12-4.
“Brooks is a guy that you never know what he’s going to bring to the table,” Mikey D’s coach Ben Snyder said. “We trust him and he came up with a big hit when we needed it.
Mikey D’s will have the number one seed and will host a playoff game next week with their opponent to be announced.Micky
