ESCANABA — Drivers and members of the community came out to the Escanaba Motor Speedway on Sunday to show their support for Easton Winling.

Winling, who was seriously injured when his car hit the wall in the first heat race on June 7, spent over a week in the hospital from injuries sustained in the crash.

That led the Escanaba Motor Speedway to hold a helmet drive to support the young racer. During Sunday’s intermission drivers went through the stands collecting money for medical expenses for the family. The speedway raised $3,881.47 during that time. The speedway also had an auction for a race suit to be given to the highest bidder.

During the races on Sunday fans were informed that Winnling had returned home from the hospital, but still has a long road ahead to a full recovery. Anyone who wants to donate to the family or send items to Winnling can send them to the Escanaba Motor Speedway at P.O. Box 1063 Escanaba, Mich, 49829.

Starting at $3.50/week.
