Boys’ basketball roundup: Area teams eliminated in district openers

ESCANABA — Postseason basketball is officially underway.

It’s no longer about trying to improve. It’s about trying to survive and advance with your season on the line. Let’s see who survived and advanced and who was sent packing.

Division 3, District 66

Gwinn 57, Bark River-Harris 28

A slow start ultimately plagued the Broncos. An 11-0 first quarter lead for the Modeltowners morphed into a 33-11 lead at the half.

The Broncos never recovered. Their 2024-25 season is over with a final record of 7-16. Jacob Mileski led the Broncos with 14 points, including four 3-pointers.

Gwinn trips to face No. 3 Iron Mountain at 6 p.m. Wednesday in district semifinal action

Menominee 84, Manistique 25

Maroons’ junior Tanner Theuerkauf led all scorers with 35 points. He also netted his 1,000th career point to set up a district semifinal matchup with No. 5 Munising.

The two are scheduled to collide at 7 p.m. Wednesday in Munising.

The Emeralds season ends with a final record of 4-19. Blake Mason led Manistique with nine points while Mack Pugh chipped in seven points.

Division 4, District 100

Stephenson 68, Hannahville 64

The Soaring Eagles’ magical season came to an end on Monday. Hannahville led 26-19 after the first quarter and 38-37 at the half. The Eagles outscored the Soaring Eagles 21-13 in the third quarter to seal the win.

Zack Schwartz paced the Eagles with 35 points. Owen Kuehnau added 20 points.

Jayden Sagataw led Hannahville with 23 points. Dashawn Metzger racked up 11 of his 13 points in the first quarter.

Hannahville’s season ends with a final record of 15-8. The Eagles face No. 1 Crystal Falls Forest Park in district semifinal action at 6 p.m. Wednesday.
