Wolverines fall to Wayland Academy
ST. NICHOLAS — It was another tough game for Rock Mid Peninsula football as it fell 52-8 to Wayland Academy of Beaver Dam, Wis. here Saturday.
Wayland quarterback Sam Parras had four carries for 224 yards and three touchdowns on the afternoon.
“I got to give credit to my team,” Parras said. “My offensive line blocked well, defense made big plays, coaches had a good gameplan, just a good all-around team effort.”
The Wolverines were the first to score on a 5-yard TD run by senior Trey Micheau to take an 8-0 lead. “It comes down to execution,” Micheau said. “It’s always one or two mistakes that cause us to collapse.”
Wayland senior Jeongwoo Na scored on a 35-yard TD run to tie the game.
“We talked all week about how to respond after a loss,” Wayland coach Cody Schultz said. “We came out slow, but we did a good job of turning it around quick and made plays that really energized our players.”
With 44 seconds to go in the first, Logan Lawson was in the right place for the Wolverines to recover a fumble by Wayland junior Alpha Sylia.
The Big Red added to the lead on a 59-yard TD run by Parras with 11:09 to go in the second quarter to give Wayland a 16-8 lead.
With 2:45 to go in the first half Wayland added to their lead on a 64-yard TD run by Parras to extend its lead to 24-8.
With just seconds to play in the half Parras hooked up with sophomore Regan Richardson for an 85-yard TD pass to give Wayland a 32-8 lead going into the break.
“The first quarter went exactly the way we planned it,” Reynolds said. “That has been the story of the season. We have pretty good first quarters then we let things get away from us.”
Wayland put an exclamation point on the game with six seconds to go in the third on a 95-yard TD run by Parras, his third of the contest.
The Wolverines were led Saturday by Trey Micheau with 34 carries for 155 yards and a score.
