Stephenson XC claims conference titles

BANAT — The Powers North Central girls were very much in the hunt for the Skyline Central Conference cross country title, falling just a point short here Thursday.

Stephenson squeezed past the Jets 47-48, followed by Munising 56 and Rapid River 59.

Eagles’ junior Faith Cappaert won the 3.1-mile race in 22:20. She was followed by Jets’ senior and two-time defending champion Hope Varoni (22:47.9) and Rock Mid Peninsula sophomore Aesara Lupinski (23:02).

The Stephenson boys also won with 56 points, followed by Munising 59 and Crystal Falls Forest Park 63.

Munising senior Dan Goss was the individual winner at 17:57.5, followed by Stephenson junior Canon Kuntze (18:24.6) and North Central senior Wes Knauf (18:31.9).

North Central is hosting its invitational Monday at 4 p.m. (EDT).
