Manistique softball sweeps Rockets

RAPID RIVER –There were a lot of ways Manistique softball could have earned its second and third wins of the season.

The Emeralds opted to score 20 runs in a both legs of a doubleheader against Rapid River on Monday, winning game one 20-7 and game two 20-8.

The Rockets, however, didn’t make life easy in Monday’s opener. in fact, Rapid River shaved a 8-2 deficit down to a one-run game off a bases loaded walk, a two-run single from Emma Hardy and RBI pokes from Emma Sundling and Khloe Medwayosh.

The Emeralds responded with 12 runs in the fourth, featuring a three-run triple from Aleah Larsen and two-run double from Kaylin Morrison for the win.

Ryleigh Rice went 2-for-2 with a RBI and run scored.

Alexis McDade earned the win, allowing seven runs (six earned) off five hits with four walks and three strikeouts.

The Emeralds put up four runs in the fourth to start Monday’s finale. The green and white tacked on three in the fourth, four in the fifth and eight runs in the sixth for the win.

McDade finished 4-for-5 with four stolen bases, four runs score, a RBI and a double. She also earned the win in the circle, allowing eight runs (five earned) off eight hits to go with five walks and five strikeouts.

Kenna Davis went 3-for-5 with four RBI and four runs scored. Morrison finished 2-for-5 with two RBI and two runs scored. Bella LaVigne finished 2-for-3 with two RBI and a run scored. Ava Kusiner and Jayda White each swiped two bases.

Carrigen Flath went 2-for-4 with two RBI and a double for Rapid River. Abbi Hardwick, Victoria Coppock and Madi LaCrosse added a base hit each.
