Gladstone baseball battles, falls short to Flivvers
KINGSFORD –Cooper San- ville stayed hot, but Gladstone baseball fell short in a 4-2 road loss to Kingsford on Tuesday.
The Braves (9-4) found them- selves down 2-0 with two outs in the top of the third. That was until Sanville delivered a two-run single to tie the contest. Sanville kept the Flivvers at bay to close the frame, and Rex Kelly delivering a lead-off single in fourth
gave Gladstone momentum. Until Isaac Ketchum grounded into a double play and Threvor Thorbahn watched three-straight pitches from Gavin Trevillian for a strikeout.
The Braves put runners on base in the top of the fifth off a David Mattonen single and Nate Young drawing a walk, but Trevillian proved to be too much once again. John Soderman and Sanville struckout in back-to-back at bats to extinguish the threat.
The Flivvers claimed the lead in the bottom half of the frame
off back-to-back RBI singles. Gladstone’s rebuttal was a Gavin Frossard fly out, a Kelly strikeout and a Ketchum grondout to end the game.
Sanville finished 1-for-3 with two RBI from the plate and allowed four runs (two earned) off seven hits with a walk and three strikeouts in five innings of work. Mattonen finished 2-for- 2. Frossard and Kelly finished 1-for-3 each. Young and Casey Alworden each stole a base.
The Braves host Norway at 4:30 p.m. Thursday.
