Esky, Gladstone baseball earn plethora of All-Conference honors

ESCANABA –Baseball coaches of the Great Northern Conference voted on regular season awards and honors earlier this week.

Escanaba and Gladstone both came away with their fair share of honors.

Esky infielder Eli Gardner earned places in the GNC All-Defensive Dream Team and GNC First Team lists. Gardner boasts a .259 batting average, a .442 on-base percentage and committed four errors in 23 games. Gladstone senior John Soderman and junior Casey Alworden also earned All-Defensive Dream Team and First-Team honors.

Soderman wielded a .263 batting average with 17 RBI and has three errors to his name for a fielding percentage of .923 in 25 games.

Alworden is batting .411 with an on-base percentage of .577 and an OPS of 1.029 with 31 stolen bases on 34 attempts and has a fielding percentage of .967 off three errors.

Escanaba also had three players earned First-Team All-GNC honors.

Senior infielder Ben Johnson cracked the list with a .310 batting average, a .410 on-base percentage and was 21-of-21 on stolen base attempts.

Sophomore pitcher Lennox Peacock also earned First-Team honors. Peacock is 2-4 with a 4.10 ERA with 37 strikeouts. He allowed three earned runs off eight hits with five walks and 16 strikeouts in 11 innings against GNC foes.

Freshman Mikaiden Hughes also earned First-Team honors. Hughes is batting .324 with an OPS of .880, a home run and 20 RBI, drawing 14 walks and striking out 19 times. He also boasts a fielding percentage of .984, committing two errors with his last coming on April 24 against Kingsford.

The Braves also had their fair shard of First-Team honorees besides Soderman and Alworden.

Junior infielder Gavin Frossard cracked the list. He leads the Braves with a .424 batting average, .530 slugging percentage and 1.042 OPS while committing three errors throughout the season.

Senior Rex Kelly earned First-Team honors for his efforts in the outfield. Kelly owns a .391 batting average, a .475 on-base percentage and an OPS of .910 and is 7-for-7 on stolen base attempts and possesses a fielder percentage of .931.

Junior Isaac Ketchum joins Peacock as the lone two First-Team pitchers. Ketchum is 3-1 with a 1.46 ERA, allowing six earned runs off 18 hits with 23 strikeouts and nine walks across 28 2/3 innings of work in 2024.
