WELLS — For the first time in 2024, Bay College softball played on its home field.

The Norse played host to Mid-Michigan College for a pair of doubleheaders on Friday and Saturday.

Here’s what went down:

Lakers 19, Norse 3

The Norse never led in their home opener Friday, falling behind 1-0 after one, 3-0 after three and 9-0 after four innings. Then the Lakers added on 10 runs in their half of the fifth to make the deficit 19-0.

Bay scored three runs in the last half of the fifth inning. Ava Mottin and Izzy Drabant added RBI singles, and Lexie Resseguie scored off an error to make it 19-3.

Drabant took the loss in the circle, allowing 19 runs (eight earned) off 18 hits with five walks. Bay committed five errors in the loss.

Lakers 14, Norse 0

Resseguie and Sierra Jones each earned base hits, but they were Bay’s lone base hits of the game. Lakers’ pitcher Heidi Nagel struckout 15 and walked one across six innings.

Norse 11, Lakers 4

The Mid Michigan faithful were forced to put the brooms back in their cars in Saturday’s opener. In particular, they went to their cars midway through three innings.

An RBI double from Jones, bases-loaded walk from Mottin, two-run double from Drabant, RBI single from Amara Martinez all set the stage for a three-run home run from Desiree Bender for an eight-run explosion.

Bender finished 2-for-4 with four RBI, scored twice and stole a base. Martinez finished 2-for-4, swiped two bases, scored two runs and drove in one run. Jones, Mottin and Allie Radcliffe had two hits each.

Drabant picked up the win, allowing four runs (one earned) off nine hits with two walks.

Lakers 14, Norse 1

Hitting woes returned for the Norse, who saw hits from Zoe Rumble, Martinez and Jones, who connected on a 3-1 pitch for a home run and Bay’s lone run of the contest.

Emma Rutter took the loss, allowing five runs (three earned) off six hits in 2 1/3 innings in the circle.

What’s next

The Norse entertain Delta College this weekend. Friday’s doubleheader is scheduled for 2 and 4 p.m. with Saturday’s action set to begin at 1 and 3 p.m.
