Esky Elks invite goes to the Huskies

ESCANABA — The 2024 Esky Elks wrestling invite is officially in the books.

Benzie Central made the trip over the bridge to take home the team title on Saturday.

Escanaba claimed two individual titles on Saturday.

Escanaba’s Cade Krueger earned two pins, a technical fall to get to the finals in the 132-pound class, where he earned a 6-2 decision over Kingsford’s Tyler Bray in the championship match. Elliot Gardner earned a 17 second pin, an 8-5 decision and a 5-2 decision to punch his ticket to the championship match at 138 pounds. He defeated Sault Ste. Marie’s Will Ohman via 6-4 decision in the title bout.

Gladstone also claimed an individual title. Sophomore Trevor Thorbaun needed 4:26 to pin Iron Mountain’s Fulton Stroud to claim first place in the 175-pound class.

Lakewood’s Jonathan Krebs pinned Newberry’s Hayden O’Neil in 1:13 to finish first in the 144-pound weight class. Lakewood’s Vincent Stamm defeated Benzie Central’s Benjamin DeRidder by major decision 12-0 in the 120-pound finals. Gladstone’s Nate Beauchamps finished fourth, going 2-2 on the day. Junior Joel Simon earned a pair of pins before besting Kingsford’s Eli Rouse via an 8-7 decision to finish first in the 215-pound class.

Benzie Central’s Cage Edingfield took first in the 106-pound division via forfeit. Dalton Geetings knocked off Benzie B team’s Joseph Morse 7-2 to earn first place for the Huskies A squad in the 150-pound weight class. Michael Pfeiffer earned three pins on Saturday, with his final pin coming 2:12 into the 190-pound championship match against Grayling’s Jake Huspen.

North Central’s Cooper Raab finished second, falling to Benzie’s Dayne Gillison via pinfall 3:07 into the championship match at 113 pounds.

126: Iron Mountain’s Tyler Winch finished first in the 126-pound weight class, besting Lakewood’s Kade Boucher via 10-3 decision. Gladstone’s Conner Britton finished in third place, losing only to Britton in the semifinal round via 7-5 decision. St. Ignace senior Jax Lipnitz needed 58 seconds to pin Pellston’s Kenny Crawford in the 157-pound title bout. Munising senior Joe Kelley won all four of his matches via pinfall to finish first in the 165-pound division. Kelley wrestled for a total of 11 minutes and 56 seconds on Saturday.

Grayling’s Logan Malonen finished first in the 285-pound weight class, earning all four of his wins by pinfall. He wrestled for a total of 7 minutes and 38 seconds on Saturday.
